Am working on getting my DVD of video art   released early next year.  I’ve been working on this project for over a year now and  I’m excited to get my work out there.  Details will be available on my blog as soon as I have them.  It will have 15 pieces on it, using video, motion graphics and digital collage creating dreamy, surreal, lyrical art.  This is a “final” draft of the cover art although I will no doubt tweak it over the next few weeks.

Love the idea of the abundance of summer still lingering on even though the days are getting shorter and shorter. Overgrown, luxurious and fragrant, the promise of another summer season is assured. Used Photoshop filters ink outlines and film grain then blended that with the original image to create a blurry image that also accents the many edges and lines in the collage.

Took my camera out early this morning to take photos of the Halloween decorations in the neighborhood and came across this group of sunflowers that I thought were so beautiful.  Used find edges in Photoshop and a curves adjustment to bring out the contrast in this photo.  It brought out some interesting edge effects as well.

Have been working on this digital collage for days now and was finally able to finish it this morning.  I just knew it was done when all the elements came together.  It doesn’t look anything like the original and I had to be willing to completely let go of all that work I had done before.

Took my video camera and headed into the Columbia River Gorge, one of the most beautiful places on earth, in my humble opinion.  The fall foliage was just beginning to turn, but it was misty and mysterious and I got some gorgeous (pun intended) footage. Stopped by a mineral hot springs area for a soak and took a picture of the place.  Added some fx to to it of course!  Will use it in a video art piece in the future…

Finished new video art piece, “Entangled” in which I use dreamy, slow motion tango dancing footage.  I also used footage that suggested entanglement and isolation using digital collages and After Effects with video clips.  This piece is an exploration of intimacy, separation, connection and isolation.

Took a break from video work to play with printing on paint swatch sheets I picked up while waiting to get a key made yesterday. The image is from vintage sheet music. I used Golden’s new Digital Ground which is supposed to help with printing on non-porous material, but it streaked badly. So I used a little Photoshop magic on it.  I’m also using the vintage image in my new video art piece.

I’ve been putting together assets for a new video art piece so am creating background collages on which to overlay live action video.  I’m so in love with arches, seems all my work has at least a hint of them.  I think its a way to enter into a new realm, the choice being critical to the experience.  Much like life and the many choices made during the day that change a life forever.

Used Adobe Illustrator’s Live Trace function to convert a tiny jpeg photo of a cafe sign to a vector image that I could size up to a 300 resolution graphic for this digital collage.  Added background catalog image and more distress to the image of the cafe sign that was already in ruins.  Finally, changed the hue to a teal blue color until I was finally satisfied with the finished collage.
